The Manufacturing SKILLS Conference

How important is a workforce in implementing change? Smith & Nephew considers skills development to be vital in achieving continuous improvement, especially where machinery, product manufacturing and waste reduction are concerned. Following a two-year investment in this area, Smith and Nephew has suceeded in training its operators to the level of expertise required to introduce Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).

Following an overview of the Smith & Nephew story, hosted by SVP Supply Operations, delegates will hear from specially recruited Training Manager, Ken Graham, as he discusses the approach taken by Smith & Nephew in improving skills, as well as Sarah Baslington, HR Manager at the Gilberdyke location, to explain the way in which this was applied to a smaller-scale site. There will also be an opportunity to speak with the training team itself, gaining invaluable first-hand knowledge from those in the know!

Additional speakers: Rolls-Royce and Hi-Tech Mouldings

Come along and hear this inspirational story.

Delegates will also be the first to receive a copy of the Skills and Productivity Industry Research Report 2007. Sponsored by Semta, and due to be published with The Manufacturer in December, the report uncovers manufacturers’ experiences and perceptions of the issues affecting their businesses across a range of issues, from recruitment, training and the links between industry and academia, to the problem of skills shortages, the provision of pension schemes, and staff attrition.
