FTA receives its 100,000th call

The Freight Transport Association’s member Advice Centre (MAC) received its 100,000th call last week and chief executive Richard Turner was on hand to answer it.

The MAC was founded nearly five years ago and gives guidance on a wide range of operational and legal issues, and the team of transport advisors have since given 6,666 hours of legal advice to members.

The special caller was Karen Dudley, dangerous goods advisor for the Shanks Group which comprises both chemical and waste services division. Karen commented: “Being a dangerous goods safety advisor I need confirmation of the most up-to-date regulations and the FTA’s Member Advice Centre is always on hand to give me the information I need for day to day operations. I have come to look upon the MAC advisors almost as members of my own team.”

Over the last month more than 1,400 calls have been made to the MAC and at present the key issues are licensing, driver’s hours and digital tachographs, with queries on these subjects making up 35 per cent of all calls.
