BMW is recalling 38,000 Minis to correct potentially faulty gearboxes.
The recall includes all Mini Cooper and Mini One models produced at the firms Oxford plant between July 2001 and May this year.
A BMW spokesman said: “There is just a chance that the gear selection mechanism can become slightly loosened so that drivers cannot change gear.” But he added that there had been only “one or two examples” of this and that no accidents or injuries have been caused by the problem.
The company anticipates that the recall will cost it £2.5 million.
