Reduced congestion at Heathrow.

Retail development at Heathrow Airport has increased steadily over the last ten years and traffic congestion is a serious problem.

With already 439 supplier movements every day to 240 retail outlets, the development of Terminal 5 could only make things worse. The establishment of an off-airport consolidation centre at Hatton Cross is at the heart of a new distribution strategy which will reduce congestion and provide more reliable deliveries to the airport’s retail outlets. Use of the new centre will also bring annual efficiency savings worth £245,000 plus a CO2 emissions saving of around 22 tonnes.

Following a successful trial, Exel was awarded a five-year contract to run the centre, which operates

24 hours a day, seven days a week, delivering to the airport at times agreed by the retailer.
