The Engineering Employers Federation (EEF) has urged the Government to press head with the review of its waste management strategy fearing that the UK will fail to meet its targets under EU legislation.
It has, however, pushed for a review of the effectiveness of existing fiscal measures for waste management before any new measures are considered.
Dr Mike McKiernan, EEF director of occupational health, said: “Whilst industry fully accept the use of targets as an important part of enforcing legislation and encouraging environmental benefits, they will fail without the necessary infrastructure, economics incentives and government leadership."
