An oil fabrication yard on the Hebridian Isle of Lewis that went into receivership three years ago has been re-opened to manufacture wind turbine towers.
Bangor-based company Cambrian Engineering has invested £3 million in the site to create the manufacturing facility, which also benefitted from a £2.6 million injection of financial aid from the Highlands and Islands Enterprise, the regional development agency.
The firm said it expects to create 65 jobs at the site, which will supply windfarm projects across the UK and Ireland. Managing director David Williams expects the plant to begin production by the end of this year.
