Yet another UK manufacturer has succumbed to the pressure to move to the Far East in an attempt to cut costs.
Baby product manufacturer Mayborn has said it will cut up to 98 jobs as it moves part of its manufacturing base to China.
The firm plans to move certain manufacturing processes from its Northumberland factory in Cramlington to purpose-built premises in Guangdong, China.
Mayborn issued a statement saying that the move was being made due to “increasing pressure from firms benefitting from low-cost production in the Far East.”
The company also added that the Cramlington site would still function as an innovative and technical development centre for the baby products division.
