EEF reports marginal rise in pay settlements

The November pay bulletin from the Engineering Employers Federation shows a slight rise in pay settlements in the engineering and manufacturing sectors.

For the three months ending October, pay settlements averaged 2.4 per cent, compared to 2.3 per cent for the three months to September. The number of pay freezes remained constant at almost one in seven. David Yeandle, deputy director of employment policy at the EEF, urged the government to maintain tight control of wage settlements in the public sector to avoid inflationary pressures which might affect the Monetary Policy Committee’s decisions on interest rates.
