DTI streamlines business support programme

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) plans to scrap over 183 business support schemes over the next two years.

The massive £1 billion a year support programme is to be scrapped after ministers admitted that the system was a “mess”.

The £1 billion a year spending will now be treated by the DTI as an investment portfolio concentrating on support for innovation, enterprise, investment and skills.
