BAE appoints Chris Geoghegan as new COO

BAE Systems, Europe's biggest defence group, has appointed Chris Geoghegan as chief operating officer.

He replaces Mike Turner who last month took over as chief executive following the ousting of John Weston.

Mr Geoghegan, who has worked for BAE and its predecessors since 1976, will be one of three chief operating officers.

Last week, BAE shocked the City with the news of senior management changes. The company would not say why Mr Weston was leaving but analysts speculated that Mr Turner would be a more motivational leader for the group.

BAE said Mr Geoghegan would be in charge of operational capital and shared services businesses. The group's shares were up 2p at 354-1/2p in midday trading in London.
