Development of the revolutionary new Segway Human Transporter (HT) has been facilitated by VisSim software which was used for modelling and simulating the complex dynamics of balance.
The two wheel human transporter is designed to enable users to travel farther and faster than they could by walking. One of its main benefits is that it does not have the limitations of conventional transport and is expected to be of particular value to emergency services in built-up areas, commuters, parcel delivery services and in carrying out everyday errands involving short journeys.
A powerful simulation tool was needed to mimic the way the human body works, and the VisSim Motion Development software was chosen for the job. Its task was to create a balance through a technology called dynamic stabilisation which works in the same way as the balance in the human body. Gyroscopes and tilt sensors, and high powered electric motors perform the functions of balance usually provided by the inner ear, and software and circuit boards replicate the brain which processes and sends commands to the muscles.
