Rolls-Royce has announced Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) as its risk and revenue sharing partner (RRSP) on the Trent 1000 engine developed for the Boeing 7E7 Dreamliner.
This is the first time that MHI has been involved as an RRSP on a Rolls-Royce large engine programme. It will take a seven per cent share in the Trent 1000 by supplying the combustor and low-pressure turbine blades.
MHI will play a leading role in the design of its components, with teams based in Derby, UK, and Japan.
Charles Cuddington, managing director, Airlines Business at Rolls-Royce, said: "We're delighted to welcome MHI as an RRSP on the Trent 1000. All successful collaborations rely on the contribution of high quality partners and, having chosen to join the programme, MHI will play a central role in ensuring the Trent 1000 repeats the market popularity of its predecessors."
Rolls-Royce is in continuing discussion with other potential Trent 1000 RRSPs.
