According to a new survey from the National Computing Centre, aligning IT strategy with business strategy is the most significant concern for senior IT management.
The NCC Survey of IT Strategy 2002 canvassed the opinions of senior IT managers across a broad spectrum of UK industry sectors.
The results paint a picture of an IT function striving to come to terms with an environment where business and IT strategies are increasingly interdependent. Securing management support was a significant issue for many sectors. “The survey is a snapshot of a fast changing environment,” said Michael Dean, NCC’s head of marketing. “The disparity of views between the IT department and company boards will have a negative impact on many organisations’ balance sheets unless there is improved co-ordination between functions. IT managers are keen to address these issues; it’s time business started to listen.”
The survey is designed to provide IT managers with a yardstick for comparing their own activities with those of peer organisations. It is free to members of the National Computing Centre and is available to non-members for £75. Copies can be ordered at www.ncc.co.uk.
