Fresh foods group Geest is set to create more than 100 as it moves towards making healthier ready meals.
The Peterborough-based group's joint business with a chicken supplier will produce meals using raw ingredients that are cooked by the consumer rather than being heated up. This sector is growing at three times the rate of the rest of the ready meals market as people become more aware of the need to eat healthily, Geest said.
Geest RFG Fresh Cook, which is a 50-50 joint venture with chicken supplier Rannoch Food Group, will include Geest's existing business. It will be based at its Holbeach site in Lincolnshire and will create more than 100 jobs. The business is expected to generate sales of £20 million in its first full trading year.
The group employs more than 10,000 staff and has factories around the UK including at Spalding in Lincolnshire and Selby in North Yorkshire.
