German based DaimlerChrysler has bucked the trend that is blighting the automotive sector by recording growth for the year through to September 2004.
Third quarter results show that operating profit increased from 1.2 million euros to 1.3 billion euros, and revenue rose by 2 per cent to 34.1 billion euros.
The Mercedes Car Group saw a 4 per cent decrease in unit car sales, but this was balanced by an increase of 3 per cent in sales in the US Chrysler Group. The greatest success, however, was recorded in the Commercial Vehicles division, which saw a massive 56 per cent increase in unit sales
Despite the positive company-wide performance, Manfred Gentz, DaimlerChrysler’s chief financial office, predicted that auto sales would slow during the rest of the year.
