MG Rover’s search for an international partner ended with the announcement in March of a long term strategic alliance with China Brilliance Industrial Holdings (CBIH).
MG Rover has felt constrained by lack of volume, but this deal puts it in a position to exploit the fastest growing car market in the world, in conjunction with China’s leading automotive manufacturer. MG Rover’s new medium sized car will be manufactured in China and plans are in place for the joint development of a new small car.
Another advantage is the lack of product overlap. China Brilliance comprises eight companies whose products include minibuses, sedans, light trucks and the legendary London black taxi cab.
