P&O is to buy Stena Line 40 per cent shareholding in P&O Stena Line for £150 million.
It said it may then rationalise North Sea ferry services after consolidation. The company also said the deal will further strengthen its position in a part of the UK-Continent ferry market that has been consistently profitable and which offers a strong growth.
Before completing the transaction, P&O Stena Line is expected to declare a final dividend for 2001 of £9 million which will be paid to P&O and Stena Line as to 60 per cent and 40 per cent respectively.
