BT, BT unveils no frills broadband service

BT has launched a BT has launched a no frills broadband product that could generate 500,000 residential connections by summer 2003. BT Broadband offers customers constant, high-speed direct internet access for £27 a month.
Customers need a modem and micro-filters that they can buy from BT for £80, and have to pay a one-off connection charge of £60. The service strips out services such as email, web space and content, leaving customers to choose the services they want. It also enables customers to pay for online content and services - such as games - without the need to make a subscription, through a micro-payment service.
BT says the new service generate £360 million per year in revenue for BT Retail by 2004-5, and be profitable from 2003-4. It says the broadband-related services are expected to deliver a net increase in revenues of £490 million in 2004-5.
