Airbus is approaching the new year on a high after signing a contract with Singapore Airlines for an additional nine of the troubled Airbus A380s, in spite of the aircraft’s long production delays.
The deal takes the airline’s total order to nineteen, and there is an option to buy a further six of the planes.
Singapore Airlines is due to take delivery of the first A380 in October 2007.
The order is welcome news to Airbus, which has been hit by a costly wiring problems with the A380 programme which have led to a two year delay in delivery, and cost the company an estimated £674 million in the three months to the end of September.
Last week, Airbus announced that the A380 had been granted its Certificate of Airworthiness by European and US aviation authorities after 2600 hours of flight tests.
