Manufacturing pay settlements are edging up according to new figures published yesterday.
EEF, the manufacturers' organisation, said the figures were edging up slightly though its findings were based on a relatively small sample. The average level of pay settlements recorded in the three months to the end of November 2006 was 3.1 per cent, slightly higher than the figure for the previous three month period to the end of October 2006 of three per cent. During the same period, the number of companies reporting that they had frozen pay fell from just over five per cent to just over four per cent of all settlements. The number of companies reporting that they had deferred their pay settlement also fell slightly to just over two per cent of all settlements.
EEF’s December 2006 Pay Bulletin contains information on 146 settlements covering 26,022 employees. Of these, the average settlement level was 2.9 per cent in September 2006, 3.2 per cent in October 2006 and 2.9 per cent in November 2006.
