A restructuring plan at Airbus could mean the loss of thousands of jobs
The defence firm EADS has finally given the go ahead for a much-anticipated restructuring plan for its Airbus subsidiary.
EADS’s board of directors have been said to ‘unanimously’ agree to the restructuring of the troubled aircraft manufacturer. The exact plans are expected to be confirmed on Wednesday when Airbus will talk to union officials.
Delays in the production of Airbus’s A380 superjumbo have been behind the major cost cutting talks, which have been further fuelled by a disagreement between Airbus factories in France and Germany
It was confirmed at the end of last week by German Chancellor, Angela Merkel and French President, Jacques Chirac that the job cuts would be distributed evenly throughout the Airbus sites. However, the exact amount of jobs to be lost is not clear.
The UK also employs approximately 11,000 staff throughout Bristol and North Wales, and in Spain.
