The world’s second largest cigarette manufacturer increases revenue by eight per cent.
BAT, which manufactures more than 300 different brands of cigarettes, has reported an eight per cent increase in group operating profit reaching £2622 million compared to last year's £2420 million. The Asia-Pacific, Latin America and the Africa and Middle East regions have been major contributors to the result.
Group revenue rose by five per cent to £9762 million from £9325 million the previous year. A jump which was achieved across a broad spread of markets. Pall Mall cigarettes in particular proved to be a large contributor, with BAT sales increasing by 40 per cent, making it BAT’s best selling brand.
Chairman, Jan du Plessis, commented: “2006 has been a good year and I believe we can look ahead with confidence in our ability to achieve further growth and value for shareholders. Over the past five years, British American Tobacco has delivered an average annual total shareholder return of 26 per cent, compared to seven per cent for the FTSE 100.”
