Airbus hit by further problems as workers launch protests and cargo jet development is suspended.
Airbus has suffered in recent months through a number of setbacks in the delivery of its A380 superjumbo. This week it was announced that 10,000 jobs will be axed over the next four years in Europe, along with reports that Airbus has been forced to suspend the development of its cargo version of the A380 superjumbo jet.
The European aircraft manufacturer had already taken three orders for the cargo jet, however, since the orders were taken in November, customers have continued to lose faith in the A380 manufacturer. One order has already been cancelled and the others look to be reassessing their orders.
According to reports, an Airbus spokesperson said: "We are not stopping the programme. We are suspending development, but we will continue canvassing for business."
To add to Airbus’ problems, French workers at its Nordenham factory are said to have walked out in protest to the redundancies, along with 1000 workers at the Laupheim plant in Germany also taking strike action.
