REGIONS: 119 manufacturing reviews already carried out
Scottish Manufacturing Advisory Service (SMAS), which was established in 2005 and based on the highly successful DTI Manufacturing Advisory Service that has been in operation in England and Wales since 2002, looks set to deliver considerable benefits north of the border.
To date SMAS has carried out 119 one day manufacturing reviews with Scottish companies, and should all of these go on to implement the recommendations, they will unlock over £19.6 million in potential added value.
One third of these companies are currently in the process of implementing the advice, part funded by SMAS, and a further 46 projects are under discussion.
Steve Graham, director of the SMAS, said: “Take up of SMAS has been extremely encouraging, ?with companies asking for advice across a number of issues. In fact, industry demand is so great for SMAS that we have just recruited three new practitioners, and are in the process of recruiting a further five.”
