Climate Change Bill must pass 'competitiveness test', say manufacturers

Britain’s manufacturers have welcomed today's draft Bill on Climate Change but urged the Government to continue the pursuit of a phased and flexible approach to hitting targets for reductions in emissions.
EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation, said it believes that industry has a responsibility to play its part in addressing climate change.
However, it warned that any new strategy must combine the need to reduce emissions with managing the impact on the economy. The organisation said will be looking to the new Climate Change Committee to apply a ‘competitiveness test’ for any new measures introduced in the UK, based on the following factors:
o Be part of a coherent strategy
o Minimise the impact on competitiveness
o Minimise administrative costs
o Not overlap with other policies
