HP goes Dutch

The HP sauce factory in Birmingham has closed after more than 100 years at the site.

The final bottle of the British sauce rolled off the production line last week.

HP's owner Heinz has moved production to Holland with the loss of 120 jobs here in the UK. The American firm said that the Aston site was no longer financially viable.

The factory produced around 24 bottles of the sauce a year, earning around £40 million for Heinz.

Union leaders have criticised the move, arguing that the product was already profitable in the UK.
