High street chemist chain, Alliance Boots, has announced plans to cut 300 jobs at its Nottingham factory, after losing of a contract manufacturing arrangement for skincare products.
Alliance Boots, which has been contract manufacturing skincare products for Reckitt Benckiser, following the £1.9 billion disposal of Boots Healthcare International in February 2006, has received notice that the agreement will end at the beginning of 2008. “To mitigate the impact of this decision on the efficiency of our manufacturing operations,” the company said, “we have announced the need for around 300 redundancies in our Nottingham factory.”
Following a review of the own brand export business, the company plans to focus on its own international businesses and on selected large export markets. As part of this plan it will be withdrawing from some smaller markets in Asia and Europe.
