The DTI’s Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) upped its game today, announcing an extended range of help to small and medium sized manufacturing firms.
Hailed as one of the Government’s more successful quangos, MAS will, from April next year, offer up to four days free advice. Other extended services from what has been dubbed ‘MAS-Plus’ include strategic planning and skills development; sourcing materials, services and technology; management and operational advice on all aspects of company business; improving the performance and operation of the supply chain; and improved resource efficiency in both energy and waste.
Speaking at Independent Forgings and Alloys in Sheffield, an MAS customer, industry minister Margaret Hodge said the expansion built on previous MAS success and offered manufacturers an opportunity to secure long term competitive advantage.
EEF director general, Martin Temple said MAS had been highly valued by manufacturers and should be the benchmark by which all government support schemes for business were set.
