Battery recall costs Sanyo $17 million

Japan's Sanyo Electric Co announced today that it will lose $17 million to cover the cost of the massive faulty mobile phone battery recall in December last year.

It was announced in December last year that 1.3 million batteries manufactured by Sanyo were to be recalled due to reports that they could overheat and rupture. Companies affected included NTT DoCoMo - Japan's top mobile phone operator - and Mitsubishi.
