Volkswagen has seen profits more than double in the first three months of the year, according to first quarter results released today.
The German carmaker’s net profit rose to €740 million (£500 million) a substantial increase compared to €327 million in the same period the previous year.
According to VW, the profit increase was largely due to demand and its recent restructuring programme. The car manufacturer also warned that the rapid growth is not expected to continue throughout the rest of the year, however, full year profits are likely to be higher than the same period in 2006.
