Consumer goods giant Unilever has reported a better than expected 5.7 per cent in quarter one underlying sales.
The Anglo-Dutch group said sales were up 5.7 per cent following a good start to 2007, putting it in line to meet its targets for the year. Net profits were up one per cent at £910 million.
Shares in Unilever, which makes Sunsilk shampoos, Dove soap and Knorr soups, were up 3.8 per cent at 1615 pence on early morning trading on Thursday.
The world's third-largest consumer goods group has set its 2007 target to see underlying sales grow between three per cent and five per cent with operating margins above last year’s 13.6 per cent.
"We have had a good start to 2007, with broad-based sales growth across regions and categories and improved margin development driven by home and personal care," said CEO Patrick Cescau.
