Chinese President Hu Jintao has said Beijing will work with to improve product safety and inspection measures.
A spate of product recalls, the most recent being Mattel’s withdrawal of several of its toys following the discovery of excessive levels of lead used in them, has placed Chinese manufacturer under scrutiny in recent months.
Speaking in Sydney during talks with the Australian Prime Minister, President Hu said the government took allegations of safety lapses "very seriously" and had conducted "very serious investigations" in individual cases.
While Beijing has revoked the manufacturing licences of a number of firms found to have violated procedures, many have accused the Chinese government of being slow to react to the problem.
"The Chinese side is willing and ready to work together with the international community to step up co-operation in quality inspections and examinations," President Hu said.
