US toy-maker Mattel has apologised to the US Senate, for lapses in its safety procedures that led to the recall of over 20 million toys over the last couple of months.
At a US Senate hearing, Robert Eckert, boss of Mattel, the toy-maker most heavily involved, has admitted that its Chinese producers had not been monitored closely enough. However, he insisted that the notice of the recalls have been given speedily and the company had not been slow to reveal its safety concerns.
A series of product recalls over the last month and half have resulted in over 21 million Chinese-make toys being removed from shelves and recalled from consumers in the US and Europe, damaging confidence in products made in China, and raising serious questions over the monitoring outsourced manufacturing. “Made in China has now become a warning label.”
