Job cuts for BMW

Car manufacturer BMW is to cut its workforce by a further 5,600 during 2008 in order to cut costs.

The job losses are to include 2,500 full time manufacturing positions, 2,500 part-time roles, and 600 staff from sales and distribution.

Having already shed 2,500 jobs, BMW will have reduced its workforce by 7.5 per cent by the end of the year.

The company, whose quarterly results fell short of market expectations, aims to reduce its annual costs by 500 million euros (£380 millon).
