Extra £10 million for more jobs and production at Scottish healthcare plant

Health and cosmetics firm Mentholatum’s Scottish manufacturing plant has been boosted by an extra £10 million investment from its US parent firm to increase productivity at the site.

The firm, which makes products such as Deep Heat and Oxy acne treatments, will channel the money into research and development as well as upping its production at its facilities in East Kilbride.

Mentholatum is an international personal care product manufacturer owned by the Japanese firm Rohto. The site in Scotland acts as its European headquarters.

Andrew Tasker, Mentholatum's managing director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said the news would mean more jobs and knock-on investments for other businesses and the local community.

“Our investment in Scotland is part of Mentholatum's long-term strategy and reinforces our commitment to the creation of world-class healthcare solutions,” said Tasker.

“This investment places East Kilbride firmly on the map in terms of growth, productivity and long-term commitment,” he added.

The company has been manufacturing in the UK since 1924 and home sales account for 50 per cent of its business.
