SMEs set to benefit from low carbon MAS cash

Government has announced it is to inject £4m worth of funding into nuclear and resource efficiency through the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS).

The funding has been allocated under the UK Low Carbon Transition Plan.

MAS delivers practical support and advice to UK manufacturers in improving efficiency, raising productivity, generating new and innovative ideas and addressing problems that may be affecting their profitability. The 22 sub sectors it supports include nuclear, environmental and automotive.

This extra funding will develop MAS’ existing manufacturing support structure and allow it to provide specialist support to SMEs.

Bryan Jackson is chairman of East Midlands Development Agency (emda), which holds the Regional Development Agency lead role for Manufacturing and coordinates MAS.

“We welcome the additional funding that is being provided for manufacturing,” he said. “It will have a real impact on small to medium sized manufacturers across the UK, enabling MAS to provide specialist support to businesses that are working within or looking to enter low carbon related markets, an area critical to the future of UK manufacturing.”
