Global Engine Alliance, the joint venture between Chrysler Group, Hyundai, and Mitsubishi, has decided that Dundee, Michigan is the favored site in the US for a new emissions-efficient engine plant.
Approximately 400 jobs will be created in the next five years as a result. The agreement for the 245-acres site is in the final stages and is still subject to government approval.
“We are moving aggressively ahead with our plans to build a facility and begin production of a new family of fuel- and emissions-efficient power plants,” said Dieter Zetsche, Chrysler Group president and CEO.
Hyundai will be the first to manufacture the engine, beginning production in 2004 in Korea. Mitsubishi will also begin production at its plant in Japan later in 2004. Engine production is scheduled to begin the US by 2005.
