Industrial production increased 0.7% in January

Industrial production at US factories made a comeback in January, with an increase of 0.7%, which followed a revised drop of 0.4% in December and was the largest monthly increase since July 2002, according to the Federal Reserve’s latest report.
Manufacturing production increased 0.5% in January, and manufacturing capacity use increased from 73.4% in December to 73.7%. Production of overall consumer durable goods rose 2.6%, following December’s decrease of 2.5%. Motor vehicle assembly production climbed to an annual rate of 12.67 million for automobiles and light trucks, up from 11.71 million in December, the lowest rate since November 2001.
