Leading aerospace manufacturers Boeing and Airbus are reducing their prices to better cope with the economic situation.
Boeing has shaved approximately 25% off of its new 737 jet, which translates into $15 million in savings for its customers.
An airplane never sells at its catalog price, said David Venz, spokesperson for Airbus. The companies said the discounts varied considerably, depending on the customer, the size of the order, and the economic conditions. Industry experts say heavy competition can slash an airliner’s price by roughly 30% to 35%.
