The New York Federal Reserve’s Empire Manufacturing Survey, which measures manufacturing activity in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands, fell to 1.1 in February, down from 20.7 in January.
Its new order subindex dropped to 12.27 from 18.79 the previous month. While unfilled orders, inventories, and delivery times remained negative, they improved marginally during the month. The general business conditions index for six months ahead dropped 14 points to 35.9. Respondents maintained a positive outlook, but they were less positive than in recent months.
