Delphi Delco Electronics was selected by General Motors to supply its Recognition model of passive occupant detection for six of its upcoming GM car platforms.
The system works off a silicone sensor mounted under the front passenger seat cushion that provides information to the airbag computer and tells it to either suppress or deploy the airbag based on the weight of the seat.
“We are very pleased that General Motors is using our innovative Recognition passive occupant detection system for their passenger cars,” said Jeff Owens, president of Delphi Delco Electronics. “We will also continue to provide the system for various GM light-duty trucks. Working with GM engineers, we have helped make airbag suppression another attainment in GM’s long list of safety accomplishments.”
