Manufacturing employment down for 32 months

Employment in manufacturing has declined for 32 straight months, according to the Labor Department’s latest release.
In March, overall unemployment hovered steadily around 5.8%. Nonfarm employment dropped by 108,000, and another 29,000 manufacturing jobs were lost. “After a revised 357,000 job loss in February, last month’s 108,000 decline clearly shows that economic activity continued to wane in the final month of the first quarter,” said David Huether, chief economist for the National Association of Manufacturers.
