Forty nine US states have experienced a marked loss of jobs in the manufacturing sector since 2000, according to information gathered by The Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Nevada is the only US state to not lose manufacturing jobs. In 28 US states, one out of every 10 factory jobs have been lost. In Washington State, the statistic is as high as one out of every six. California has witnessed a drop of 167,000 jobs over the past two and a half years, and Texas, New York, Ohio, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania have lost approximately 90,000 jobs each.
“This data presents in stark and painful terms what all US manufacturers have felt in their guts for a long time—we’re in the midst of a time of historic challenge,” said Frank Vargo, VP for international economic affairs for the National Association of Manufacturers. “This shows that manufacturing has been literally decimated.”
