Take this job and judge it
How many of your employees like working for you? Walker Information, an Indianapolis, IN research firm, asked the question to over 3,000 US workers from business, non-profit, and government organizations the. The answer? Probably not as many as you think.
The results indicate only 30 percent of all U.S. employees are truly loyal—those who are committed, motivated, and have no intentions of seeking other employment in the foreseeable future. The study, released this month, shows only a small increase in employee loyalty compared to 2001.
Chris Woolard, director of client services for Walker Information, says that the manufacturing sector is particularly susceptible to worker turnover. "If you look at the economic conditions for manufacturers in the last three years and the number of layoffs, it's not surprising that employees feel secure in their jobs," he says.
Among the findings:
• Less than 70 percent said they felt a strong personal attachment to their department, while 53 percent said they felt a strong personal attachment to the company as a whole.
• At least 90 percent of loyal employees said they would recommend their place of employment as a good place to work, while only 36 percent of trapped and high-risk employees would make that recommendation. Overall, only 55 percent said they would be likely to recommend their organization as a good place to work.
Consequently, 55 percent of loyal employees said they would resist job offers from another firm, while only 26 percent of trapped and high-risk employees would remain committed to their current employer. Overall, nearly 20 percent said they are likely to actively search for job opportunities at other companies. And only 50 percent say they work for strong, capable senior leaders.
According to Marc Drizin, Walker Information vice president and loyalty specialist, who directed the national loyalty study says these numbers can have a direct effect on the bottom line. “There’s a very direct link between employee loyalty and customer loyalty,” says. “Happy employees lead to happy customers and, often, increased revenue.” For more information about the study, visit the company’s website at www.walkerinfo.com or call 317-843-3939.
