IBM to add 10,000 jobs next year

Armonk, NY-based IBM, the world’s largest computer company, will add approximately 10,000 new jobs next year, according to Chairman and CEO Samuel J. Palmisano.

“We are beginning to see signs that the economy has stabilized,” said Palmisano in a statement. “As we look to 2004, more customers are expected to increase their investments in information technology. Next year, in fact, we see the need for approximately 10,000 new positions in key skill areas, including high-value services, middleware technologies, Linux and open standards-based hardware and software.”

Palmisano made the statement as IBM put out its third-quarter earnings report this week. IBM reported revenue of $21.5 billion in the third quarter of 2003, up 9 percent from $19.8 billion during the same period a year ago.

IBM currently employs approximately 315,000 people worldwide.
