Alliant Techsystems (ATK), the largest U.S. manufacturer of ammunition, has been awarded contract modifications worth $75 million to produce additional small-caliber ammunition to meet Department of Defense requirements.
The contract modifications, from the U.S. Army Joint Munitions Command in Rock Island, IL, are additions to a one-year production contract awarded earlier this year. The modifications bring the total value of its small-caliber ammunition orders to $264 million.
ATK Lake City Small Caliber Ammunition will produce the ammunition at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in Independence, MO, which the company manages for the U.S. Army. Production at the plant is at its highest level in 16 years following recent orders from the U.S. Army for increased quantities of training and combat ammunition.
ATK Lake City Small Caliber Ammunition is the leading supplier of small-caliber ammunition to the Department of Defense. The company is one of three operating units within ATK's Ammunition and Related Products Group, which produces more than 3.5 billion rounds of small-caliber and medium-caliber military ammunition annually.
ATK is a $2.2 billion aerospace and defense company, headquartered in Edina, MI. It employs approximately 12,200 people.
