The World Economic Forum ranked the United States as having the second-most competitive economy, behind Finland, according to a report released this week.
“The United States holds a commanding position in the technology area, but this is offset by some weakening in the quality of its public institutions and macroeconomic environment,” said the Forum in a statement.
Sweden’s, Denmark’s and Thailand’s economies ranked third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
The World Economic Forum’s annual Global Competitiveness Report ranks 102 economies according to their potential for sustained growth. The survey quantifies factors that contribute to such growth, including the macroeconomic environment, the quality of the country’s institutions, and the state of the country’s technology and supporting infrastructure.
The World Economic Forum is an independent nonprofit international organization based in Geneva, Switzerland.
