Motorola announces appointment of new CEO

Schaumberg, IL-based communications technology manufacturer Motorola, Inc., today announced that its board of directors had unanimously elected Edward J. Zander to succeed Christopher B. Galvin as chairman and chief executive officer of the company.
Zander will join Motorola effective January 5, 2004.
Zander most recently was a managing director of Silver Lake Partners, a leading private equity fund focused on investments in technology industries.
Prior to Silver Lake Partners, Zander was president and COO of Sun Microsystems until June 2002. During his tenure, Zander grew Sun to $18 billion in revenues and established it as the number one company in the server market. He oversaw the company’s manufacturing, research and development, sales and marketing.
Motorola’s sales in 2002 were $27.3 billion.
