First-time unemployment claims dropped to 341,000 for the week ending March 6, down 6,000 from the previous week’s revised figure of 347,000, the US Department of Labor reported this week, continuing the overall downward trend of recent weeks.
Last week, initial unemployment claims dropped by 7,000, and the week ending February 14 had the largest weekly drop in first-time claims since November of last year.
In this week’s report, Texas reported a decrease in manufacturing sector layoffs for the previous week ending February 28.
The current overall unemployment rate is 5.6 percent, released earlier this month by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.
