Lincoln, AL-based automaker Honda Manufacturing of Alabama and Norfolk, VA-based transportation company Norfolk Southern today dedicated a new $15 million rail yard at Lincoln, AL, as Honda prepared to expand its plant.
The plant currently employs approximately 3,100 workers. A new second assembly line will begin production this spring, and is expected to expand the workforce to 4,300.
The 125-acre rail yard includes eight tracks in the rail loading area, and has capacity for loading up to 1,120 vehicles into 104 rail cars. Two outbound trains daily serve the 2.8 million-square-foot plant, which has the capacity to produce 300,000 vehicles annually.
